There are certain stories we hear about that capture our imagination. Like Knitta Please, The Simple Way and some of the anecdotes in Blue Like Jazz, we got inspired by something called The Karma Army
The idea? To spread joy in our community (whether that be in church, your neighbourhood, your gym, your school, university, college or workplace…) by doing fun or silly things that make people smile or by simple random acts of kindness.
Each day we’ve been posting an idea on how you can do this on our Twitter Feed (@theartofjoy ).
1. Be encouraging. Compliment the people you meet today.
2. Leave money for a bus fare on the pavement at a bus stop.
3. Do something practical for charity e.g. knit clothes for premature babies, volunteer at a shelter…
4. Send a letter or card to a friend or relative you’ve not seen in a while.
5. It’s Friday cake day! Buy or make cake and share with your colleagues.
6. Leave a bouquet of flowers on your neighbours doorstep.
7. Write post-it notes with fun things on and randomly place them in books or noticeboards.
8. Offer to babysit for a friend/relative for free.
9. Smile and say hello to people to everyone you see today. Say please and thankyou – show your gratitude!
10. Buy coffee for a stranger (talk to them if you’re brave enough!)
11. Let someone go in front of you in line
12. Hand out awards in your neighbourhood – e.g. cleanest car, tidiest garden, best christmas decorations
13. Have a clear out. Recycle, have a car boot sale, donate to charity…
14. Buy lollipops and hand them out to adults.
15. If you can, donate blood this week (hey it’s Easter after all)
16. Offer to take out your neighbours’ rubbish bin.
17. Write a thank you card to someone who has made a difference in your life.
18. Smile at the traffic wardens you see (ultimate grace).
19. Donate your used magazines to your local health centre or nursing home.
20. Host a game night with your friends/family. Turn off your TV/phones and enjoy each other’s company.
21. Give an easter egg to someone you don’t know.
22. Make a packed lunch and lay it in the lap of a homeless person on the street.
